Charcoal portrait in A2 250gsm mixed media paper

Her radiant skin pushing the bounds of the veil,
Her blindness leaving my thoughts pale.
She chose her own darkness over light,
Ripping herself off the pleasure of sight.

Why, you may ask!
The answer locked away in her eyes,
Tied by a cloth of light and a gentle guise.

The truth may be stricken or cowed,
Alluring us to lift her delicate shroud.
But what of her choice to remain in the dark,
Isn't that what makes our temptation so stark.

Let her be in her darkness guarded by light,
Let her choice shine through the night.
For we choose where we reign,
That may be someone else's chain.

Leona is of Latin origin, meaning strength or lioness
